Modern digital x-rays capture the image on sensors, rather than on film, allowing immediate viewing on the computer screen. In addition to saving the time spent developing film, this is done at lower levels of exposure than are used for x-ray film. The image can be enhanced for improved viewing and can be printed or transmitted digitally.
